Synopsis (Barnes & Noble):

What should a proper lady do when she believes her days are numbered?

Step One: Take a Lover...

After being told she will not survive beyond the year's end, prim and lovely Marguerite Laurent intends to live what remains of her life to the fullest. Though she may never know love, she will know passion - and she agrees to a whirlwind romance with a former admirer. But hours before embarking upon her grand adventure, Marguerite is abducted - by an unscrupulous rogue who boldly announces his intentions to bed and wed her before the week is out!

Step Two: Live With No Regrets...

Ash Courtland pulled himself up from the gutter to become a successful man of business, and now he wants revenge on his one-time partner for betraying him. Still, his enemy's bewitching daughter is not about to surrender her innocence to the infuriating - if shockingly attractive - cad who took her captive. Yet with no more than a touch, Ash makes her tremble with desire... and resisting the heat of his passion could cost Marguerite her last, best chance for ecstasy.

Thoughts:

Sophie Jordan set the book world on it's ear with her YA release, Firelight, but now she returns to her historical fiction roots, with her latest release, Wicked Nights With a Lover. Jordan sets her tale in 19th century England, and uses this backdrop to bring her characters to life. Jordan writes with flawless style and brings the reader a novel full of sensuality and passion.

Nurse Marguerite Laurent doesn't usually believe in fortune tellers but there's something different about this one, a mystical quality that makes her listen. When she is informed that she only has a short time to live she takes matters into her own hands. Life is short and she intends to make the most of it. She has a major change in plans when Ash Courtland kidnaps her, seeking revenge on her estranged father. His touch makes her tremble with desire and his attractiveness is almost more than she can take. Will she give in her feelings and find the love she craves before it's too late?

This is a fast paced read at over 300 pages. Readers will be flipping those pages furiously as they wait to see what happens between this passionate couple. The steam radiates off the pages as Jordan's characters come together in more ways than one. Readers of historical romance will really enjoy this one. It has all the markings of a great romance: love, desire, passion, betrayal and a good kidnapping!

Marguerite is a great character, she is feisty and full of determination. Even though she believes she is going to die and wants to find passion she won't give in to Ash, just because he's there. He kidnapped her and she isn't about to surrender to him without a fight. There relationship is fiery and full of lots of toe to toe discussions where Marguerite is just as much in control as Ash. I enjoyed the banter between the two of them. Ash is a strong man with lots of potential but it may never be realized because he consumed with revenge. To go to the extremes of kidnapping the daughter of his former partner, takes some guts. He is very a sexy character, with good looks and a sensual nature. Readers will really enjoy reading these characters and trying to figure out what they'll get into next.

I'm giving this one 4 out of 5 apples from my book bag!

Sophie Jordan grew up on a pecan farm in the Texas hill country, where she wove fantasies of dragons, warriors, and princesses. A former high school English teacher, she's also a New York Times bestselling author of Avon historical romances. She now lives in Houston with her family. When she's not writing, she spends her time overloading on caffeine (lattes and Diet Cherry Coke preferred), talking plotlines with anyone who will listen (including her kids), and cramming her DVR with true-crime and reality-TV shows.
