Synopsis (Courtesy of Barnes & Noble):

Major Jack Novak has never failed to meet a challenge - until he meets army nurse Lieutenant Ruth Doherty. When Jack lands in the army hospital after a plane crash, he makes winning Ruth's heart a top priority mission. But he has his work cut out for him. Not only is Ruth focused on her work in order to support her orphaned siblings back home, she carries a shameful secret that keeps her from giving her heart to any man. Can Jack break down her defenses? Or are they destined to go their separate ways?

A Memory Between Us is the second book in the Wings of Glory series, which follows the three Novak brothers, B-17 bomber pilots with the US Eighth Air Force stationed in England during World War II.

Thoughts:

The second book in the Wings of Glory series by Sarah Sundin focuses on Jack and his story. Sundin has a unique way of showing World War II through the eyes of the sons of one family and the women they love. There are so many things in this book that I really loved. The author uses several different themes within the book to show the great redemptive power of God and how he uses the circumstances of life to teach us things.

Jack Novak is a fighter pilot and a preacher and when he sets his sights on a young army nurse, he is absolutely sure he will win her heart. His pride in himself continues to rule his decisions throughout the book until he makes a decision that costs him the lives of friends as well as enemies. I liked Jack's character a lot. It showed that even preachers still deal with issues in their own lives. They are not perfect even though we sometimes hold them to a much higher standard.

Ruth Doherty has a secret. A secret that she never wants to tell anyone. She feels that this secret makes her unlovable and that if anyone knew it would change how they felt about her, so she shields herself. She refuses to date and is obsessed with her work as a nurse, until she meets Jack. He is dead set to win her love and she is just as determined to never trust a man again. Ruth was such a great character. I think she reminds me a lot of myself, because she felt that she was so flawed that she couldn't find love. When she finds Jack, she finds someone who shows her about a deeper love and it completely changes her life.

I recommend this one to anyone who loves a good romance as well as anyone who enjoys stories set during World War II.

Available September 2010 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

I am giving this one 5 out of 5 apples from my book bag! Loved it!
